Is a spray tan actually safer than a tanning bed? +
Yes, and it is not a close call. A tanning bed produces colour by exposing you to UV radiation, which is what causes skin cancer and the photoaging we spend the rest of our menu treating. A spray tan develops colour in the surface layer of the skin with DHA and involves no UV at all. It is the only way to get the colour without the damage, which is why we offer it and why we do not offer a bed.
Can I get a spray tan while pregnant? +
Many people do, and the solution sits on the surface of the skin rather than being absorbed in any meaningful amount. The two things worth raising with your OB or midwife are the mist you breathe during application and the fact that pregnancy skin often develops colour unevenly, particularly anywhere you already have melasma. We can offer a barrier for your face and go lighter than you would normally book.
Should I book a wax or a facial in the same week as my tan? +
Get them done first, then tan. Wax at least twenty-four hours before, because waxing afterwards strips colour straight off along with the hair. Facials, peels, and anything exfoliating should happen several days before rather than after, for the same reason. If you book the tan first and the facial second, you will have paid for a tan you are about to take off.
Can I work out, swim, or use the sauna with a fresh tan? +
Not until it has developed and you have rinsed, and after that, sweat and chlorine are what shorten a tan more than anything else. A hard workout the day after will leave you patchy where you sweat most, and a pool or a sauna will lift colour fast. If you have a tan and a gym routine, rinse cool and pat dry rather than rubbing, and expect to come back sooner.
Can I get sprayed over a sunburn or a new tattoo? +
Not over a sunburn. The solution will cling to peeling skin and go blotchy, and we are not going to put anything on skin that is already damaged. A healed tattoo is fine and we can work around it. A new one needs to be fully healed first, which usually means a few weeks, and we will cover it rather than spray over it if you are in any doubt.
My tan is fading patchy. What should I do? +
Do not top it up on top of the patches, which is the instinct and makes it worse. Exfoliate the whole area properly to take the remaining colour down evenly, then come back and start again. Patchy fading almost always traces back to dry areas, shaving, or a missed moisturiser rather than the tan itself, so tell us where it went first and we will adjust how we prep you next time.
